Goniatite Ammonite
Ammonoids were marine organisms that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name is derived from the distinctive "ram’s horn" shape of their shells, inspired by the Egyptian god Amun, famously depicted with ram’s horns. Though resembling modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are more closely related to octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. Their shells were segmented into chambers by septa, whose intersections with the outer shell formed complex suture patterns vital for classification. Early Goniatites feature a characteristic "Goniatitic" zigzag design of smooth lobes and saddles, while later Ammonites display intricate, fern-like sutures.
