Peacock Ore is also known as Bornite, and is a sulfide mineral that crystalizes in a pseudo cubic form. This copper ore mineral is found in copper mines and is typically 63% or more copper. The brilliant iridescent metallic colors of peacock ore are a result of surface tarnishing (reaction to oxygen) that is natural, but often enhanced with a bath of Sulfuric Acid to brighten the natural colors. The Metallic Lustre of this ore, its hardness of only 3, and its brittle tenacity means that is should be handled with care, so as not to lose the surface colors by chipping.
