Leptomeryx Evansi is an extinct genus of ruminant of the family Leptomerycidae that was unique to North America during the Eocene through the Oligocene and lived about 30 million years ago. They stood up to 30 cm at the shoulder and weighed about 5 to 15 kilograms. Fossils of Leptomeryx Evansi can be found in the Badlands, South Dakota. It was a small deer (like ruminant) though their digestive system was likely simpler than those of modern ruminants or cud-chewers with somewhat slender body. They used to live in open forests or forest/savanna ecotone and they likely browsed soft foliage and would have eaten fruits too.
