Name: Leptomeryx Evansi
Diet: Herbivore
Leptomeryx evansi was a small, extinct ruminant that lived in North America roughly 30 million years ago, during the Eocene to Oligocene epochs. Part of the family Leptomerycidae, it stood only about 30 cm at the shoulder and weighed between 5 and 15 kilograms. Fossils have been found in the Badlands of South Dakota. This deer-like animal had a slender body and a relatively simple digestive system compared to modern cud-chewing ruminants. It likely roamed open forests or forest–savanna transitional areas, feeding on tender leaves, shoots, and fruits.
