Leptomeryx evansi is an extinct genus of small ruminants from the family Leptomerycidae that lived in North America during the Eocene to Oligocene epochs, around 30 million years ago. These deer-like animals stood about 30 cm tall at the shoulder and weighed between 5 and 15 kilograms. Fossils have been discovered in the Badlands of South Dakota. With a slender body and a relatively simple digestive system compared to modern cud-chewing ruminants, Leptomeryx evansi likely inhabited open forests or forest–savanna transitional areas, feeding on soft leaves, shoots, and fruits.
