Goniatite Ammonite
Ammonoids were marine organisms prevalent from the Devonian through the Cretaceous periods. Their name originates from the characteristic "ram's horn" shape of their shells, named after the Egyptian god Amun, who was depicted with ram’s horns. Though similar in form to modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are more closely related to octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. Their shells consisted of multiple chambers separated by septa, whose attachment to the outer shell formed suture patterns essential for classification. Early Goniatites are defined by a "Goniatitic" zigzag suture pattern featuring smooth lobes and saddles, while later ammonites exhibit more elaborate, fern-like sutures.
