Goniatite Ammonite

Ammonoids were marine animals that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name derives from the "ram's horn" shape of their shells, linked to the Egyptian god Amun, who was often shown with ram’s horns. While they look similar to modern Nautiloids, their closest living relatives are likely octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish. Their shells featured chambers separated by walls called septa, and the points where septa meet the outer shell form suture patterns used for identification. Early Goniatites display a simple zigzag “Goniatitic” pattern, while later Ammonites show more complex, fern-like sutures.
