Goniatite Ammonite
Ammonoids were marine creatures that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name comes from the "ram's horn" shape of their shells, inspired by the Egyptian god Amun, who was often shown with ram’s horns. Although they look similar to modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are more closely related to octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish. Their shells were segmented into chambers by walls called septa, and the points where septa meet the shell formed suture patterns used to identify different ammonoids. The early Goniatites display a "Goniatitic" zigzag pattern with smooth lobes and saddles, while later ammonites feature more complex, fern-like sutures.
