Jurassic Age, 201 million years old.

Ammonites are iconic extinct marine invertebrates of the class Cephalopoda within the phylum Mollusca, related to modern nautilus, squid, and octopus. They ruled the oceans for around 350 million years, with peak diversity in the Mesozoic Era, and played a crucial role in biostratigraphy. Their hallmark was an external, planispiral shell with chambers separated by complex septa, which they added to as they grew. Their size ranged from small to up to 6 feet, possibly 9 feet. They thrived during the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, especially in the Jurassic and Cretaceous, and are key for defining biozones. They couldn’t survive the asteroid impact 66 million years ago, ending their 350-million-year reign. Fossils, often found in limestone in Morocco, are valuable for understanding ancient marine ecosystems and Earth's history.
