Hadrosaurus was a fascinating hadrosaurid dinosaur that roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period, around 80–78 million years ago. This duck-billed herbivorous dinosaur weighed between 2 and 4 tons and primarily walked on all fours, though it could rise onto its hind limbs to reach tall plants or escape predators.
With a complex dental battery containing up to 1,400 teeth, Hadrosaurus could efficiently grind tough vegetation, a remarkable adaptation among herbivorous dinosaurs. Its forelimbs, though less robust than the hind limbs, were long enough to assist in standing and movement, allowing it to forage effectively.
Hadrosaurus shared anatomical similarities with contemporaries like Kritosaurus and later hadrosaurids such as Edmontosaurus, reflecting evolutionary trends in feeding and mobility. Its duck-billed snout, adaptive limbs, and specialized teeth made it a successful and resilient dinosaur. Hadrosaurus exemplifies the diversity and sophistication of Late Cretaceous North American dinosaurs, highlighting the evolutionary success of hadrosaurid dinosaurs in prehistoric ecosystems.
