Name: Brachylophosaurus

Type: Herbivore

Size: About 9 meters long.

Brachylophosaurus was a mid-sized hadrosaurid dinosaur that lived approximately 76.5 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous Period. Fossils have been discovered in Montana’s Judith River Formation and Alberta’s Oldman Formation, revealing a dinosaur that could grow up to 9 meters long and weigh around 7 metric tons.

This dinosaur is best known for its unique bony crest, a flat, paddle-like plate atop its skull that distinguished it from other hadrosaurs. Brachylophosaurus also featured long forelimbs and a wide upper jaw beak, allowing it to reach and process a variety of vegetation efficiently. Its cheeks and specialized teeth were adapted to thoroughly chew plant material, a remarkable trait among reptiles, highlighting its advanced herbivorous feeding strategy.

The combination of its size, skull crest, and dental adaptations makes Brachylophosaurus one of the most remarkable Late Cretaceous herbivorous dinosaurs, showcasing the diversity and specialization of hadrosaurid dinosaurs. Its evolutionary features allowed it to thrive as a highly effective plant-eater in the rich ecosystems of North America.
