Cretaceous Age 66-83.5 million years old.

 Name: Triceratops

Type: Herbivore

Size: 8 to 9 meters long.

Triceratops exhibited complex herd behavior that likely enhanced survival during the Late Cretaceous, approximately 68 million years ago. Weighing up to 9 metric tons, Triceratops possessed a massive skull with three distinctive horns and a bony frill lined with smaller spikes, both defensive and social in function.

Traveling in herds, adults could shield juveniles from predators such as Tyrannosaurus rex, while the herd’s coordinated movements likely minimized risk during feeding and migration. Fossil evidence shows healed wounds from predator attacks, highlighting the importance of social protection and cooperative defense strategies.

Triceratops’ horns were also used in intraspecies interactions, such as establishing dominance or competing for mates. Combined with their herd dynamics, these adaptations ensured the survival of individuals and maintained the stability of the herd within Late Cretaceous ecosystems.
