Epidote is a sorosilicate mineral commonly found in metamorphic rocks with the chemical formula Ca₂(Al, Fe)₃(SiO₄)₃(OH). It typically forms elongated prismatic crystals and exhibits a range of colors from yellow-green to black, with its distinct pistachio-green hue being most characteristic. Epidote has a vitreous luster and is often associated with minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and amphibole.
With a Mohs hardness of 6 to 7, epidote is relatively durable. Its attractive color and luster make it popular for gemstones and jewelry, and it is also used in ceramics manufacturing and occasionally serves as a minor iron ore.
