Goniatite Ammonite

Ammonoids were marine cephalopods that thrived from the Devonian to the Cretaceous periods. Their name derives from the distinctive "ram’s horn" shape of their shells, linked to the Egyptian god Amun, who was depicted with ram’s horns. Although resembling modern Nautiloids, ammonoids are more closely related to octopi, squid, and cuttlefish. Their shells featured chambers separated by septa, and the attachment points of these septa to the shell’s exterior formed suture patterns critical for classification. Early Goniatites exhibit a characteristic "Goniatitic" zigzag pattern of smooth lobes and saddles, while later ammonites display more complex, fern-like sutures.
