Otodus sharks remain larger than any modern carnivorous fish, measuring one and a half times the size of the largest documented great white shark. However, this considerable size did not guarantee apex predator status, as Otodus coexisted with other formidable marine predators, including Basilosaurus—an 18-meter predatory whale with a morphology reminiscent of ancient mosasaurs. Despite this competition, Otodus was well-equipped to maintain its position against most contemporaneous marine predators.
