Otodus sharks were larger than any carnivorous fish swimming in today’s oceans, measuring about one and a half times the size of the biggest great white shark ever found. However, their impressive size didn’t guarantee them the top spot in the food chain since they shared their habitat with other powerful predators like Basilosaurus, an 18-meter-long whale that resembled an ancient mosasaur. Even so, Otodus was strong enough to compete effectively with most other sea predators.
