Prehnite is a translucent to transparent pale green mineral of the phyllosilicate group, first described in 1788 and named after Dutch military officer Colonel Hendrik von Prehn. Frequently found in association with calcite and epidote, prehnite is most commonly encountered in basaltic rock environments. Its crystal habits are remarkably diverse, ranging from prismatic and tabular forms to smooth, botryoidal shapes. The mineral’s soft, serene green hue and naturally glossy surface make it highly desirable for cabochons, beads, and intricate carvings, elevating its value among collectors and artisans alike.
