The Woolly Rhinoceros was one of the most impressive giants of the Pleistocene megafauna, roaming the frozen grasslands of Europe and northern Asia during the Pleistocene epoch. Perfectly adapted to Ice Age climates, this extinct rhino species was protected by a thick woolly coat and recognised by its long, sweeping horn—an essential tool for clearing snow to reach vegetation.
Towering in size, adult Woolly Rhinos measured 9.8–12.5 feet long and weighed a staggering 4,000–6,000 pounds, making them one of the heaviest herbivores of their era. Their powerful bodies, specialised teeth, and cold-weather adaptations allowed them to thrive until the end of the last glacial period.
Today, the Woolly Rhinoceros remains a key species for understanding Ice Age ecosystems, Pleistocene biodiversity, and the evolution of large prehistoric mammals. Its fossils are especially valued by collectors, museums, and anyone fascinated by the ancient giants that once shaped Earth’s landscapes.
