Name: Maiasaura

Type: Herbivore

Size: 9 meters in length.

Maiasaura was a large, herbivorous saurolophine hadrosaurid, commonly known as a "duck-billed" dinosaur, that lived during the Upper Cretaceous Period, around 65 to 70 million years ago. In 1978, a remarkable nesting site was discovered in the Two Medicine Formation near Choteau, Montana, U.S. Maiasaura had a short, wide, toothless bill, and its mouth contained hundreds of tightly packed teeth used for chewing and grinding plants. It had a low head with a small bony crest between its eyes and a long, pointed tail. Like other duck-billed dinosaurs, its hind legs were longer than its front limbs. It is estimated that Maiasaura took about seven to eight years to reach full maturity, growing up to eight meters in length and weighing approximately four metric tons.
