Grape Agate is a relatively recent discovery in the mineral world. Despite its trade name, Grape Agate is actually botryoidal purple chalcedony, known locally as Manakarra stone, native to Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. Its botryoidal formation gives it the appearance of a cluster of grapes, which inspired its popular name. The term Manakarra comes from the province in western Sulawesi where it is found. Grape Agate occurs in a range of colors, including purple, blue, and green.
