Strombus bubonius (now often referred to as Persististrombus latus) is a fossil gastropod commonly found in marine terrace deposits in the Mediterranean region of Spain. Its occurrence indicates warmer water conditions than those currently present in the area.

Dating these deposits is essential for understanding past sea-level changes and interglacial periods. The U-series nuclide method, particularly Th/U dating, has been applied to Strombus bubonius shells. While single-shell dates can sometimes be unreliable due to the mobility of uranium isotopes, statistical approaches have proven effective in producing consistent chronologies in both continental and marine contexts.

Research in the Almería region of southeastern Spain, using Th and U isotope measurements, has established a coherent timeline. These studies indicate that Strombus bubonius was present in the Mediterranean basin at the end of the Mindel-Riss interglacial (Oxygen Isotope Stage 7) and during each high sea-level episode of the Riss-Würm interglacial (Oxygen Isotope Stage 5).
