Grape Agate is a relatively recent discovery. Despite its trade name, it is scientifically known as botryoidal purple chalcedony, or locally as Manakarra stone, native to Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. Its unique botryoidal formations resemble a cluster of grapes, which inspired the name Grape Agate. The term Manakarra comes from the province in western Sulawesi where it is found. This stone occurs in a variety of colors, including purple, blue, and green.
