Conopygus Sea Urchin
Conopygus Sea Urchins are marine invertebrates that can be found across nearly all major ocean habitats—from the poles to the equator, and from shallow coastal waters to depths greater than 5,000 meters. With around 800 living species, they possess a rich fossil record that extends back roughly 450 million years to the Late Ordovician Period. Often referred to as “Sea Biscuits,” the term Echinoid comes from the Latin word for “pickle.” When alive, these creatures were covered with movable spines that served both as protection and as a means of movement.
