Unakite is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and quartz. It is typically characterized by mottled patterns in shades of green and pink, giving it a distinctive and attractive appearance. Because of its appealing color combination and durability, unakite is commonly used in jewelry, beads, and decorative objects.

Unakite forms through the metamorphism of granite, a process that occurs deep within the Earth’s crust under conditions of high temperature and pressure. During metamorphism, the plagioclase feldspar in the original granite is altered to form orthoclase feldspar and epidote. The intergrowth of these minerals produces the characteristic green-and-pink coloration that makes unakite easily recognizable.
