Grape Agate is a relatively recent discovery in the mineral world. Despite its trade name, it is actually botryoidal purple chalcedony, locally known as Manakarra stone, native to Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. Its botryoidal formations give it the appearance of a cluster of grapes, inspiring the popular name. The term Manakarra comes from the province in western Sulawesi where it is found. Grape Agate occurs in a variety of colors, including purple, blue, and green.
