Purple Fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride (CaF2) and is recognized for its striking purple color, ranging from light lavender to deep violet. This mineral is found in Morocco, a country known for its abundant mineral deposits, particularly in the Atlas and Anti-Atlas Mountains. It forms in hydrothermal environments where heated fluids interact with surrounding rocks, crystallizing in a cubic system and often displaying octahedral or cubic shapes. Its distinctive purple color results from manganese impurities within the crystal structure. Fluorite features a glassy shine, a Mohs hardness of 4, and perfect cleavage along octahedral planes, allowing it to break into smooth, flat surfaces. Additionally, it glows blue or violet under ultraviolet light due to its fluorescent properties.
