Armigatus is an extinct genus of clupeomorph fishes within the order Ellimmichthyiformes. These fish lived during the Late Cretaceous period (Cenomanian / Turonian, around 95-90 million years ago), with fossil remains discovered in the Middle East and North Africa. The Cretaceous limestone deposits of Lebanon boast a remarkable diversity of fauna. Fossils from these layers rival those from Solnhofen in Germany and often share the characteristic of being the same color as the limestone matrix. Notably, the limestone deposits of Sahel Alma, Hajoula, and Haqel in Lebanon, which date to the Cenomanian Stage of the Middle Cretaceous, approximately 100 million years ago, are renowned for exceptionally well-preserved fossil fish, alongside a variety of other invertebrate fossils such as shrimp and lobsters.
