Purple Fluorite is a mineral that belongs to the halide group and is made of calcium fluoride (CaF2). It is known for its vibrant purple color, which can range from light lavender to deep violet. Morocco is one of the countries where Purple Fluorite is found. Located in North Africa, Morocco is famous for its rich mineral resources. Purple Fluorite deposits are found in various regions, including the Atlas Mountains and the Anti-Atlas Mountains. These ranges are known for their geological diversity, which has led to the formation of many minerals, including Purple Fluorite. Purple Fluorite forms in hydrothermal environments from heated fluids reacting with surrounding rocks. This mineral crystallizes in the cubic crystal system and often appears as octahedral or cubic shapes. Its distinctive purple color is caused by impurities in the crystal structure, mainly traces of manganese. Besides its unique purple hue, Fluorite has a glassy luster and a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale. It has perfect cleavage along octahedral planes, allowing it to break into smooth, flat surfaces easily. The mineral also fluoresces under ultraviolet light, emitting a blue or violet glow.
