Erythrite, also referred to as Red Cobalt or Cobalt Bloom, is a hydrated cobalt arsenate mineral that commonly manifests as crusts, clusters, and slender prismatic crystals. Classified within the Vivianite group, it frequently coexists with other cobalt minerals and can also be found in association with native silver deposits. Distinguished primarily by its vivid crimson coloration, erythrite may also appear in hues of purple, pink, peach, and gray. Paler shades of erythrite generally indicate elevated nickel content. This mineral was first identified in 1832 in Saxton, Germany, by François Sulpice Beaudant, who named it after the Greek term “Erythros,” meaning “red,” reflecting the hue of the original specimen.
