Purple Fluorite is a halide mineral composed of calcium fluoride (CaF₂), known for its vibrant purple hues ranging from pale lavender to deep violet.
In Morocco, Purple Fluorite is found in regions such as the Atlas Mountains and Anti-Atlas Mountains, areas renowned for their geological diversity and rich mineral resources—the mineral forms in hydrothermal environments, where heated fluids react with surrounding rocks.
Crystallizing in the cubic system, Purple Fluorite often appears as octahedral or cubic formations. Its distinctive purple color comes from trace manganese impurities. The mineral has a glassy luster, a Mohs hardness of 4, and perfect cleavage along octahedral planes, allowing it to break into smooth surfaces. It also fluoresces blue or violet under ultraviolet light.
