Unakite is a type of metamorphic rock composed primarily of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and quartz. It typically exhibits shades of green and pink with mottled patterns that create its distinctive and appealing appearance. Owing to its attractive coloration and texture, unakite is widely used in jewelry, ornaments, and decorative stones.
Unakite forms through the metamorphism of granite, during which plagioclase feldspar in the original rock is altered into orthoclase feldspar and epidote. This transformation takes place deep within the Earth’s crust under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions. The interplay of these minerals results in unakite’s characteristic pink-and-green coloration.
