Hadrosaurus is a genus of hadrosaurid ornithopod dinosaurs that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, around 80 to 78 million years ago. These dinosaurs weighed between 2 and 4 tons and primarily walked on all fours, with their powerful hind legs bearing most of their weight. They could also stand on their hind legs to reach higher vegetation and may have run using just their back legs to escape predators. Hadrosaurus had an astonishingly complex set of teeth—up to 1,400 in total. While their forelimbs were not as sturdy as their hindlimbs, they were long enough to assist in standing and movement. Their build was similar to Kritosaurus, which lived alongside them, as well as to later hadrosaurids like Edmontosaurus.
