Agate describes many types of banded Chalcedony, a Quartz family mineral named after Sicily’s Achates River, where it was first found. This stone commonly features layered stripes, sometimes showing eye-like patterns, color spots, fossil inclusions, or appearing solid. Known as the earth’s rainbow, Agate’s concentric bands appear in nearly every color nature creates, including clear.
