Lived during the Late Cretaceous Age about 77 million years ago.
Name: Brachylophosaurus
Type: Herbivore
Size: About 9 meters long.
Brachylophosaurus, a moderately sized hadrosaurid from the Judith River Formation in Montana and the Oldman Formation in Alberta, existed approximately 76.5 million years ago. Adult specimens measured at least 9 meters in length and weighed around 7 metric tons. Distinctive for its bony crest—a flat, paddle-like structure atop the skull—this dinosaur also featured elongated forelimbs and a broader upper jaw beak compared to its contemporaries. Adaptations such as cheek structures facilitated the retention of plant material during mastication, enabling efficient chewing—a rare adaptation among reptiles, yet characteristic of ornithischian dinosaurs like Brachylophosaurus.
