Upper Cretaceous, 96 Million Years Old

 Name: Pterosaur

Type: Carnivore

Size: 10 to 12 meters in length

Pterosaurs, the remarkable flying reptiles from the extinct Pterosauria group, thrived throughout the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods of the Mesozoic Era, spanning 228 to 66 million years ago. They were the first vertebrates to achieve powered flight, with wings made from a stretch of skin, muscle, and other tissues extending from their ankles to an elongated fourth finger. Early species featured long, fully toothed jaws and lengthy tails, while later ones had shorter tails and some lost their teeth altogether. Their hollow, air-filled bones—similar to those of birds—offered lightweight strength, supported by thin bone walls, a prominent keeled breastbone for powerful flight muscles, and a larger brain to manage sophisticated flying skills. This incredible design made pterosaurs some of nature’s most impressive aviators.
