Upper Paleocene (56 Million Years Old)
Palaeophis Magrebianus (Sea Snake)
Palaeophis is an extinct genus of marine snakes belonging to the Palaeophiidae family. These prehistoric snakes lived from the Late Cretaceous (about 70.6 million years ago) to the Eocene epoch (around 33.9 million years ago), making them some of the earliest known fully aquatic snakes. Fossil evidence shows that Palaeophis species had elongated, streamlined bodies, adapted for life in ancient oceans and seas. Studying Palaeophis helps scientists understand the evolution of marine reptiles and the diversity of prehistoric snakes.
