Mosasaurs were the giant lizards of the ancient seas, stretching up to nearly 60 feet long with a skull measuring 6 feet. These fierce swimmers dominated the ocean, propelling themselves like underwater serpents with powerful tails and agile, webbed feet for precise maneuvering. Thriving in the late Cretaceous period, between 96 and 65 million years ago, mosasaurs were relentless carnivores, feasting on fish, turtles, and shellfish. Sharing their era with dinosaurs, these predators vanished in the dramatic Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction, marking the end of their reign beneath the waves.

Please be aware of the nature of fossils:

Being buried under the ground for millions of years under tons of pressure tends to be rough. No fossil comes out of the ground whole and perfect. Most fossils have undergone some restoration, while others are altered by man simply to enhance their presentation in different ways. The workers in the United States do a very professional job of unearthing and preserving these natural treasures; however, commonly, natural cracks are visible on the surface. These are part of the natural beauty of the fossil and are not considered defects.
