Late Cretaceous, 70 to 66 million years old.

Majungasaurus was a powerful carnivorous dinosaur that ruled the landscapes of Late Cretaceous Madagascar as an apex predator. Although smaller than giant theropods like Tyrannosaurus, this abelisaurid hunter was highly specialized for survival in its environment. Its thick, muscular skull and strongly built jaws contained large, curved teeth with serrated edges designed to slice through flesh and grip struggling prey. At around 20 feet long, Majungasaurus combined agility with strength, making it an efficient hunter of other dinosaurs and animals living on the island. Evidence from fossil studies suggests it may have had complex feeding behaviors, reflecting advanced adaptation to its isolated ecosystem. As one of the best-known abelisaurids, Majungasaurus provides a fascinating example of how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved differently in the southern continents during the final age of dinosaurs.
