Late Cretaceous, 70 to 66 million years old.
Majungasaurus is an abelisaurid theropod dinosaur known from Late Cretaceous fossil deposits in Madagascar, dating approximately 70–66 million years ago. This carnivorous dinosaur measured around 6 meters in length and displayed distinctive anatomical traits, including a robust skull, shortened forelimbs, and heavily built neck muscles. Its teeth were large, serrated, and curved backward, suggesting a feeding strategy focused on slicing flesh and maintaining grip on struggling prey. As one of the best-preserved abelisaurids, Majungasaurus provides valuable evidence about predator evolution on isolated landmasses during the Cretaceous period. Its fossils have helped researchers reconstruct the ancient ecosystems of Madagascar and understand the diversity of Gondwanan theropod dinosaurs.
