Late Triassic, 237 to 201 million years old.

Postosuchus was a formidable rauisuchid archosaur that roamed the Earth during the Late Triassic period, about 237 to 201 million years ago. As a member of the archosaur lineage, it shared distant relations with both crocodilians and dinosaurs. Measuring around 4 to 5 meters long, Postosuchus was one of the largest terrestrial predators of its time, equipped with massive jaws lined with sharp, serrated teeth, ideal for hunting and consuming prey.

Its muscular body, strong limbs, and long tail suggest that it was a swift and agile hunter, capable of chasing down smaller reptiles and early mammals. The combination of crocodile-like and dinosaur-like anatomical features reflects its early evolutionary position among archosaurs.

Fossil evidence of Postosuchus has been discovered in North America, particularly in areas that were once part of the supercontinent Pangaea. These fossils provide valuable insights into the ecology and evolution of rauisuchids during the Late Triassic. As a top predator, Postosuchus played a crucial role in its ecosystem, maintaining the balance of predator-prey relationships in prehistoric environments.
