Abelisauridae, known as "Abel's lizards," were a fierce family of ceratosaurian theropods dominating the Cretaceous landscape, famously called the Kem Kem Abelisaur. The genus Abelisaurus was boldly identified by Argentine paleontologists in 1985 as the pioneering member of this deadly carnivorous clan, which thrived mainly across southern continents like South America and Africa. Portrayed as a medium to large predator, Abelisaurus fossils from Morocco reveal creatures weighing around 2,000 kg. These ancient hunters were early members of their group, sharing their territory with monstrous giants such as Carcharodontosaurus and Spinosaurus.
