The Abelisauridae—meaning "Abel's lizards"—were fierce ceratosaurian theropods ruling the Cretaceous era, famously known as the Kem Kem Abelisaur. The genus Abelisaurus, first named by bold Argentine paleontologists in 1985, marks the dawn of this relentless group of carnivorous predators. Dominant across southern lands, such as South America and Africa, these medium to large hunters weighed around 2,000 kg, as revealed by fossils from Morocco. These basal giants shared the stage with other apex predators like Carcharodontosaurus and Spinosaurus, commanding their territory with primal power and dominance.
