The Woolly Rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis) is an extinct species of rhinoceros that roamed across Europe and northern Asia during the Pleistocene epoch, surviving until the end of the last glacial period. As a prominent member of the Pleistocene megafauna, it was well-adapted to the cold, icy environments of the time.
Adult woolly rhinos could reach lengths of 9.8 to 12.5 feet and weigh between 4,000 and 6,000 pounds. Their large, muscular bodies were covered with a thick coat of fur to withstand freezing temperatures, and they had long, curved horns that were likely used for foraging through snow, defence against predators, and in combat with other rhinos. Woolly rhinoceroses were herbivorous, grazing primarily on grasses and other low-growing vegetation found across the Ice Age steppe.
