Pachycephalosaurus is an extinct genus of pachycephalosaurid dinosaurs that lived during the late Cretaceous period in North America, approximately 68 to 65 million years ago. It reached about 5 meters (16 feet) in length and weighed roughly 370–450 kilograms. The dinosaur was bipedal, with powerful hind limbs and less developed forelimbs. It is well known for its large, bony dome on its skull, which could be up to 25 cm (10 inches) thick and provided protection for its small brain. Its short skull featured large, rounded eye sockets facing forward, indicating good eyesight and binocular vision. Likely equipped with a short, thick neck, a bulky body, long hind legs, and a heavy tail—probably held rigid by ossified tendons—Pachycephalosaurus is the largest dinosaur known for having a dome-shaped skull.
