Triceratops is a herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur genus that first appeared about 68 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period, weighing around 5 to 9 metric tons. These large, quadrupedal dinosaurs featured three prominent horns and a bony frill at the back of their skulls. Their skulls were quite large relative to their bodies, with a short neck frill that extended upward and three horns—two above the eyes that were the largest, and a smaller nasal horn on the snout. Along with these main horns, they had numerous small spikes along the margin of the expanded bony frill at the back of the skull. They coexisted with other dinosaurs and were likely preyed upon by Tyrannosaurus Rex.
