Name: Triceratops

Type: Herbivore

Size: 8 to 9 meters long.

Triceratops is a well-known genus of herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaurs that thrived during the Late Cretaceous period, roughly 68 million years ago. These large, quadrupedal dinosaurs weighed between 5 and 9 metric tons and were instantly recognizable by their three prominent facial horns and a broad bony frill at the back of the skull. The two long horns above the eyes were its most formidable defensive features, while the smaller nasal horn extended from the snout. Additional small spikes lined the frill, enhancing protection from predators.

With a massive skull relative to its body, Triceratops was a powerful herbivore, capable of defending itself against threats. It coexisted with Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the apex predators of the time, which likely targeted Triceratops despite its strong natural defenses.

As one of the most iconic ceratopsian dinosaurs, Triceratops exemplifies the diversity and evolutionary adaptations of Late Cretaceous herbivores in North America and remains a favorite among paleontologists and dinosaur enthusiasts alike.
