Grape Agate is a relatively recent discovery. Despite its trade name, it is scientifically a botryoidal purple chalcedony, also known locally as Manakarra stone, native to Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. Its botryoidal formations resemble clusters of grapes, which inspired the name Grape Agate. The term Manakarra comes from the province in western Sulawesi where it is found. This stone occurs in a variety of colors, including purple, blue, and green.
