 Name: Triceratops

Type: Herbivore

Size: 8 to 9 meters long.

Triceratops was one of the most recognizable herbivorous dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous period, first appearing around 68 million years ago. This massive ceratopsid dinosaur roamed what is now North America, thriving in the final chapter of the Age of Dinosaurs. Weighing between 5 and 9 metric tons and measuring up to 9 meters (30 feet) in length, Triceratops was a powerful, quadrupedal plant-eater built for both defense and survival.

Its most defining feature was its enormous skull—one of the largest of any land animal ever discovered. The skull supported three prominent horns: two long brow horns positioned above the eyes and a shorter nasal horn projecting from the snout. Behind the head rose a large bony frill edged with small, spike-like projections. This impressive headgear likely served multiple purposes, including defense against predators, species recognition, and possibly display behavior.

As a large herbivorous dinosaur, Triceratops fed on low-growing vegetation, using its sharp beak and rows of shearing teeth to process tough plant material. It shared its environment with formidable predators such as Tyrannosaurus rex, and fossil evidence suggests encounters between the two species were not uncommon.
