Pachycephalosaurus is an extinct genus of pachycephalosaurid dinosaurs. It lived during the late Cretaceous period in what is now North America from 68 to 65 million years ago. It grew to about 5 meters (16 feet) long and weighed approximately 370–450 kilograms. It was a biped with strong hind limbs and much less developed forelimbs. It is well known for its large, bony dome on top of its skull, up to 25 cm (10 inches) thick, which protected its small brain. The skull was short and had large, rounded eye sockets facing forward, indicating that the animal had good eyesight and was capable of binocular vision. It probably had a short, thick neck, a bulky body, long hind legs, and a heavy tail, likely held rigid by ossified tendons. It is the largest known dome-skulled and bone-headed dinosaur.
