Name: Hadrosaurus

Type: Herbivore

Size: 7 to 8 meters in length

Hadrosaurus was a genus of hadrosaurid ornithopod dinosaurs that lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous period, roughly 80 to 78 million years ago. Adults weighed between 2 and 4 tons and were mainly quadrupedal, but they could stand or sprint on their hind limbs to reach high foliage or escape predators.

This dinosaur is particularly notable for its complex dental battery, containing up to 1,400 teeth, allowing it to efficiently chew tough plants—a rare adaptation among reptiles but common in herbivorous dinosaurs. Its forelimbs, while not as strong as the hind limbs, were long enough to aid in standing and maneuvering, giving it versatility in movement and feeding.

The skeletal structure of Hadrosaurus closely resembles that of its contemporary Kritosaurus and later hadrosaurids like Edmontosaurus, reflecting evolutionary trends in limb and dental specialization. Its combination of duck-billed snout, specialized teeth, and adaptive limbs makes Hadrosaurus a standout genus among Late Cretaceous North American herbivorous dinosaurs, highlighting the diversity and sophistication of hadrosaurid dinosaurs in prehistoric ecosystems.
